Anchorage Teddy Bear Picnic Celebrates Inclusive Play

ANCHORAGE, AK, July 17, 2017 – Play is for everyone, Teddy Bears included! Families, community members, and their favorite stuffed animals are invited to the Anchorage Teddy Bear Picnic on Ted Stevens Day, Saturday July 22, 12-3pm at Cuddy Family Midtown Park. A free picnic lunch will be provided along with activities and entertainment for everyone, including face painting, photobooth, games, crafts, Teddy Bear parade, and more! The picnic is a celebration of inclusive play in Anchorage parks, encouraging children and adults of all abilities to enjoy outdoor fun together.

The Anchorage Teddy Bear Picnic is hosted at Cuddy Family Midtown Park, the site of Anchorage’s first inclusive playground, installed in 2013. Through inclusive play we create outdoor spaces that go beyond accessibility standards, where children and adults of all abilities can play together regardless of ability. Anchorage currently has ten inclusive playgrounds and two more in the works this summer at South Anchorage Sports Park and Muldoon Town Square Park. An inclusive zipline will go in at Jewel Lake Park. To learn more about inclusive play, come to the Anchorage Teddy Bear Picnic on Ted Stevens Day or visit www.AnchorageParkFoundation.org.

“Inclusive play means that nobody has to sit on the sidelines of play and that nothing obstructs children from playing together,” says Molly Brenner, Community Outreach Director of the Anchorage Park Foundation. “Everyone, including children who experience disabilities, should have the opportunity to play with their friends on the playground.”

Saturday, July 22rd, 12-3pm.
