DSC_0255In 2015, Dave Rose Park became one of the main inclusive playgrounds to open in Anchorage. The new play equipment is aviation-themed, designed through the inspiration of watching children playing at Dave Rose Park looking to the skies in wonder at air traffic from Merrill Field and Elmendorf Air Force. Park improvements included removing underbrush and trim trees in forested areas, repairing or replacing bollards, painting benches, and removing graffiti and litter across the park. Funding for the park came from a combination of sources including the accessible features of the play area made possible by more than $50,000 from the Rasmuson Foundation and a $25,000 gift by a private donor supporting inclusive play initiatives for Anchorage. A grant of $50,000 was given by the State of Alaska for Mountain View and Russian Jack vandalism prevention and more than $100,000 of municipality funding was leveraged.
