Fishing Line Collection Stations

Fishing Line CollectionAnchorage Waterways Council (AWC) received $1,500 in matching funds from APF to build and install collection stations for used fishing line at various fishing spots in Anchorage parks. Eagle Scout Candidate Kyler Ince assisted with construction of the collection stations. In their application, AWC wrote, “Monofilament fishing line lasts up to 600 years in the environment where it entangles wildlife and pets, is eaten by animals including birds, and is hazardous to boaters and swimmers.” AWC will collect and recycle the fishing line themselves. They plan to raise their match through a combination of in-kind donations and volunteer labor.
