Baxter Bog Park

Baxter Bog Park

Baxter Bog originated when a group of residents took a community school class on how to plan a park. At the time, it was described as a peat bog with the only natural lakes in east Anchorage. A 5 acre nestled next to Baxter Bog, known as Pfleiger Park, was donated by Mr. Pfleiger in 1970’s. Purchasing of the park began in 1972 and 1978.

In 2008, a Challenge Grant for Baxter Bog was awarded to develop the Alicia Iden Nature Trail. The trail honors Alicia Iden who was one of the original communities members that worked to establish the park. The grant funded construction of an elevated overlook platform and installation of interpretive signage.
