Ira Walker Park - 2011 Fix-It Complete!

We worked with community volunteers like you to revitalize Ira Walker Park in summer 2011!
What we accomplished:
• Replaced Damaged Parts on Play Equipment
•Installed 4 New Play Equipment Pieces
•Replaced sand fall-surfacing with engineered wood fiber
• Upgraded Sign, Kiosk and Trash Cans
• Added Lighting at Light Pole
• Repainted Hop Scotch
Total Park Improvement Value: $97,258
In Fall 2008, over 1,000 Anchorage parks supporters participated in grading neighborhood parks for the Anchorage Parks Report Card. The Anchorage Park Foundation and the Parks & Recreation Department use information from these "Fix-It Lists" to engage Neighborhood Park Committees in
planning Fix-It efforts in parks.
Thanks to the Russian Jack Very Important Parks Committee parks committee for their involvement in prioritizing repairs and recruiting volunteers!

Park History
In 1981, the community requested that this property be placed on the Capital Improvement list and purchased as park land. The original owner donated a portion of the value of the land to the city but did not wish to have the park named for him. The park was originally called Towne East Park. In 1988, Mr. Ira Walker donated soil to start development of the park. In 1997, the park was renamed Ira Walker Park.
