This property was originally homesteaded by Mr. & Mrs. Johns in 1947. They offered the 50 acre property for sale to the Municipality of Anchorage in 1972 for use as a park. The Johns requested that the property remain free of motorized vehicles, buildings, and diversion of Furrow Creek. They wished to preserve the park as green space for wildlife.
