PARK HISTORY

Contracts were made with the Alaska Railroad and Chugach Electric in 1989 to propose building an observation area for the public to enjoy the fish ladder at Ship Creek. In 1980 a grant was secured from the legislature and construction was completed two years later. The Ship Creek Overlook and sign dedication was held on June 15, 1983. This spot was designated as the beginning of the Coastal Trail.
