Sitka Street Park Boulder and Neighborhood Fix-It

Summer 2016, a climbing boulder was installed in Sitka Street Park to promote healthy recreation opportunities for pre-teens and teenagers in the neighborhood.  On August 20th, community volunteers came together for a Neighborhood Park Fix-It to revitalize the park by weeding the flower beds, planting seeds, painting bollards, and removing graffiti.  The event ended with the opportunity to test out the new boulder with climbing instruction from the Alaska Rock Gym.

“I’m so excited to see this project finally complete,” says Representative Geran Tarr. “Pre-teens and teenagers need healthy recreation opportunities and this new boulder is a great informal introduction to climbing. I’m happy to see the neighborhood embracing this new asset.” Funding for the boulder came from a 2011 Alaska State Grant.

You can find Sitka Street Park at 1580 Sitka St.
