Muldoon Neighborhood Celebrates Anchorage’s Newest Playground

Imagine 75 happy kids running down the trail from Scenic Elementary to Scenic Park, lit with new energy efficient LEDs and a Safe Route to School. They are headed to their brand new playground.

Jennifer Schmitz, Principal of Scenic Park Elementary says, “As a school and a part of this community, we are thrilled that there is another safe place for our families to spend time and for our children to play.”

Neighbor and Scenic Park VIP committee member Catherine Carte rejoiced, “”Our Scenic Foothills community welcomes another safe place for children to play.”

In 2003, vandals burned down the play equipment at Scenic Park.  A decade later, this new playground has been installed thanks to the Alaska State Legislature, Anchorage Park Foundation, and Anchorage Parks & Recreation Department.  A group of engaged neighbors and members of the Scenic Foothills Community Council set the priorities for the revitalized park plan.

Rep. Pruitt said, “I’m glad we were able to get these improvements for Scenic Park. Thanks to everyone in the community for making this project possible.”
