On Monday, May 16th, students at Denali Montessori will join the Mayor in planting a tree to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Alaska Arbor Day as a Schools on Trails event.
First, second, and third graders will walk a mile along the Delaney Park Strip from their school to the site of the new tree where they will be met by Mayor Ethan Berkowitz and Sandra Potvin, Horticulture Supervisor with Anchorage Parks and Recreation. Potvin will lead the students through the entire tree planting process along with educational programming.
Funding for the tree came from the Alaska Community Forest Council to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Alaska Arbor Day. The first celebration was in 1966, when the holiday was established by state law.
The public is welcome to join the tree planting and celebration of Alaska Arbor Day.
