The Anchorage Teddy Bear Picnic is a day filled with fun, imagination, and the exploration of a world full of potential for kids and teddies of all abilities.
The Anchorage Teddy Bear Picnic on July 23rd was a HUGE success. About 2,000 people (and their Teddy Bears!) celebrated a beautiful day and inclusive play. The picnic was complete with live music, face painting, a Teddy Bear parade, aerial silk performers, playground play, and more!
As the site of Anchorage’s first inclusive playground, Cuddy Family Midtown Park made the perfect venue for the event, which celebrated and generated enthusiasm for the inclusive play initiative. No child should have to sit on the sidelines and watch their peers play. Through inclusive play, children who experience disabilities can play independently in a safe environment, and grandparents, parents, and veterans with disabilities are able to play with their children without barriers. Currently Anchorage has 10 inclusive playgrounds and it is the Anchorage Park Foundation’s goal to renovate all of our city’s playgrounds. Play is for everyone!
Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and supported this event. More pictures here!
