SUMMARY:Sign the Petition to Support the Fish Creek Trail Connection
DESCRIPTION:Sign the petition HERE/ –  \nThe purpose of this project is to complete a missing link in Anchorage’s trail system by developing a safe\, multi-used trail connection between the Fish Creek Trail and the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. \nThe trail would start north of the existing Fish Creek Trail near Rustic Goat\, cross over Northern Lights on an existing bike and pedestrian bridge\, and follow the railroad tracks to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. \nThe Fish Creek Trail Connection provides a safe and accessible link between the Spenard\, Midtown and Turnagain neighborhoods to the Coastal Trail. \nThe Fish Creek Trail Connection Project is managed by Anchorage’s transportation planning agency\, AMATS. \nFind more information and the preferred alternative at Fishcreektrail.com. \nFind more information about the beautiful existing Fish Creek Trail\, which is part of the Moose Loop\,  HERE  \n

SUMMARY:Celebrate Qin Cheghi at Chugach State Park
DESCRIPTION:Qin Cheghi is now installed at the overlook trail next to the Glen Alps parking lot in Chugach State Park. Go visit it the next time you are on the mountain. \nPlease join Southcentral Foundation\, the Native Village of Eklutna and the Anchorage Park Foundation for the Indigenous naming ceremony of Tanaina Peak near Flattop Mountain at 5 pm on June 25\, 2025. Qin Cheghi is one of 32 culturally significant sites that have been identified by the Native Village of Eklutna and will be installed over the next two years. Each site is a public destination along the muni park and trail system\, which follows the ancient pathways of the Dena’ina. The event will include a land acknowledgment\, blessing and drumming ceremony. The Indigenous name\, Qin Cheghi\, translates to “ridge where we cry\,” and is a sacred Dena’ina place of mourning and remembrance. \nMany thanks to the Mellon Foundation for a $1.7 million grant to support the Indigenous Place Names Project in Anchorage.
