DESCRIPTION:The Race Across Alaska Winter Challenge (RAAWC) is celebrating its 6th year this Winter 2025-2026! This is a multi-sport\, multi-distance winter challenge to log as many miles as you can over three months starting the first day of winter\, December 21st\, 2025 and ending the last day of winter\, March 20th\, 2026. \nYou can Walk\, Run\, Fat Tire Bike\, Indoor Bike\, XC Ski\, Swim\, or log “other” for exercises not included like ice skating\, kick sledding\, stand-up paddle boarding\, or anything else where you can accrue mileage. Next\, you will pick which race distance you’d like to accomplish across Alaska with your choice of eight different routes of varying distances depending on your goals! \nRace Mileage if you begin December 21st\, 2025 \n\n60 miles = Anchorage to Whittier (0.7 miles/day)\n125 miles = Anchorage to Sheep Mountain (1.4 miles/day)\n235 miles = Anchorage to Denali National Park (2.6 miles/day)\n350 miles = Anchorage to Delta Junction (3.9 miles/day)\n500 miles = Alaska Long Trail\, Seward to Fairbanks (5.6 miles/day)\n800 miles = Denali Highway Loop (8.9 miles/day)\n1\,150 miles = Historic Iditarod Trail (12.8 miles/day)\n2\,000 miles = Ketchikan to Deadhorse (22.3 miles/day)\n\nYou will have the ability to log your miles\, track your progress\, collect virtual badges\, and see how you rank up to others on the leader board daily. All donations are tax deductible and donors will receive tax documentation from the State once their donations have been processed. The park includes a sandy beach\, playgrounds\, trails\, a basketball court\, and a picnic pavilion. It also contains wetland and upland forests\, native plants\, and wildlife habitat. \nLove this park? Share your ideas by filling out the survey. It closes February 20. Find the survey here: https://www.muni.org/Departments/parks/Pages/GooseLakeMasterPlan.aspx \nPark users can enjoy a groomed Nordic ski loop on the lake when conditions allow in winter\, and get access to winter-only bike and ski trails at APU. \nAnchorage Park Foundation recently curated a 3 mile walking loop that can be done year round – with grooming provided by Anchorage Parks and Recreation and UAA. It’s called the Goose Loop. A fun place to start is at Goose Lake Park and trails\, where it then weaves throughout the UMED district – through the UAA Campus\, Alaska Airlines Center\, the UAA Dorms\, Providence\, and back around to UAA Drive and to Goose Lake Park. It’s a fun way to learn the UMED neighborhood. A new Master Plan will ask the community what would make this park great for future generations and how we should prioritize park improvements. \n  \nAnchorage Park Foundation dreams of a new facility that could have a restaurant or coffee shop and be a place you could rent for birthday parties and weddings and enjoy the gorgeous view. \n  \n  \n
