A 2013 Challenge Grant was awarded to Alaska for Litter Prevention and Recycling (ALPAR) to work with landscape architects and a local artist to redesign the confluence of the Coastal Trail and the Chester Creek Trail. ALPAR used primarily recycled materials in the design of the plaza and installation of a recycling bin is planned. In the fall of 2014 a 30-foot tall kinetic sculpture entitled “Transformation” by Rebecca Lyon was installed.
