Westchester Lagoon Landscaping and Art Installation

Mary Fischer from ALPAR is ready to combat litter in Anchorage.

A 2013 Challenge Grant was awarded to Alaska for Litter Prevention and Recycling (ALPAR) to work with landscape architects and a local artist to redesign the confluence of the Coastal Trail and the Chester Creek Trail. ALPAR used primarily recycled materials in the design of the plaza and installation of a recycling bin is planned. In the fall of 2014 a 30-foot tall kinetic sculpture entitled “Transformation” by Rebecca Lyon was installed.

Total cash raised $21,917; total volunteer and in-kind contribution value: $101,689, total match value $123,605
