Moose Loop Trail Challenge Starts Saturday, August 23

Celebrate Anchorage’s Trail Network During the Moose Loop Challenge, August 23–30

Anchorage, AK — The Moose Loop Trail Challenge kicks off Saturday, August 23, inviting Anchorage residents to bike, walk, or run any section of the city’s world-class trail system through August 30. This year’s challenge is part of the Anchorage Park Foundation’s 20th Anniversary celebration, highlighting two decades of building, restoring, and improving local parks and trails.

Over the past 20 years, Anchorage Park Foundation (APF) has invested in making Anchorage’s trails safer, more accessible, and easier to navigate. In 2024 alone, APF coordinated the installation of 139 new signs across the trail system, helping residents and visitors explore the urban trail network with confidence. APF has an interactive Google map of the route and other resources to make planning your own adventure easier—visit our Moose Loop Trails page.

“The Moose Loop Trail Challenge is about celebrating what makes our city such a great place to live,” said Beth Nordlund, Executive Director. “Everyone who participates helps support our mission to keep improving Anchorage’s parks and trails for the next 20 years and beyond.”

Trail Challenge participants choose their own adventure—whether it’s completing the full 32-mile Moose Loop by bike, running a section with friends, or walking a favorite neighborhood path. Along the way, they’ll be part of a community-wide celebration of Anchorage’s trails. Many thanks to title sponsor ExerPlay, Inc., dozens of local businesses and non-profits and hundreds of local participants that support our work to improve navigation and safety.
