We are proud to support APU Nordic Ski Center’s Rollerski Awareness Day to heighten awareness of safety for athletes training on roads and trails of Anchorage. Skiers of all ages will be doing a 50k ride on the Moose Loop. Join us for Wild Scoops as we cheer on our Olympic athletes in training. We will be at the safety station on the Lanie Fleischer Chester Creek Trail at Westchester Lagoon/Margaret Eagan Sullivan Park.
Many drivers and trail users do not know how to approach rollerskiers while on the roads and trails. Rollerskis don’t have brakes! You should approach slowly, with caution, and provide space when passing. On steep inclines on the roads, we ask for drivers to have patience when approaching and passing with caution. It is hard for rollerskiers to turn quickly and stop. We encourage athletes to wear bright colors to be safe and seen.
