UMED Area Wayfinding Improvement Project

Safety & Education Wayfinding for Accessing Trails from UMED Area of Anchorage

Project Description:
The Anchorage Park Foundation is seeking funds through the Recreational Trails Grant Program for a wayfinding project that would improve access from the University Medical District (UMED) of Anchorage, Alaska to a multi-use trail system and surrounding public land. The proposed wayfinding project will install navigational signage in key locations throughout the UMED area. The signage will reduce barriers to accessing trails, public parks, and nature from the congested car-centric UMED area by safely directing pedestrians and cyclists to Anchorage’s Moose Loop trails, which also lead to Chugach State Park through the Mountains to Sea trail route. This is a priority project for safe active transportation infrastructure recommended by Destination UMED, a recent travel demand study. The UMED Wayfinding project will start and finish during summer of 2025.
