Neighbors in this area identified a community need to transform the unsafe trail between Russian Jack Springs Park and the surrounding neighborhoods to Wonder Park Elementary School into an official “Safe Route to Schools” trail. The surface of the trail was cracked with potholes and tree roots, and the visibility along the trail was poor. In the summer of 2015, the Anchorage Park Foundation and Parks & Recreation Department completed improvements on the Wonder Corridor Park Safe Route to School with the help of community volunteers and the input of a neighborhood park committee. Funding for the Wonder Corridor Park Safe Route to School came from a $25,000 Anchorage Park Foundation Challenge Grant award match and $25,000 from the State of Alaska.
