Between June 1 through June 5, 2015, crews from the Youth Employment in Parks program built a brand new 660 foot trail inspired by Balto the sled dog who was a major player during the Serum Run and the annual Iditarod sled race. The trail features informational signs about the Serum Run and dog mushing in Alaska along the path. Total funding for this project came from $16,000 Municipality funds, $10,000 private funding, and a $5,000 State Legislative Grant.
