Schools on Trails refers to our youth engagement programming and is designed to get students outside by empowering Anchorage teachers with tools and training to enhance education through outdoor experiences. Connection to nearby parks, trails, and green spaces ignite an adventurous spirit and encourage a love of learning and introduce students to their closest environment.
Schools on Trails Objectives
- Support educators regularly in getting students outside doing any lesson or activity.
- Raise awareness of trails, parks, streams, and natural areas near Anchorage schools.
- Connect students and families to public spaces through hands-on learning opportunities.
- Engage all Anchorage public schools, especially Title 1 schools with natural areas.
- Provide students access to the social, mental, and physical benefits of nature.
Program Areas
- Outdoor School
Anchorage School District 5th graders can spend two days in their nearest local park learning outdoor skills, recreation activities, history, science, and social-emotional skills. - Portable Outdoor Classroom Kits
