Locals to Valley of the Moon Park have been using the old baseball field as a dog park for years, but summer of 2017 it became official with new dog park fencing, entrances, and an ADA accessible pathway. Other improvements included safety LED lighting for the parking area and pavilions and a parking lot expansion with the addition of 28 new spaces to mitigate on-street parking hazards, especially important with the anticipated rising popularity of the park. Volunteers planted a rain garden by the new parking area and cleared vegetation along the Chester Creek Trail to improve sight lines during two Neighborhood Park Fix-Its. The volunteers included United Way Emerging Leaders, Trail Watch, and neighbors.
Anchorage voters bonded in 2016 and 2017 a total of $350,000 for improvements to Valley of the Moon Park.
