What: Ribbon Cutting Celebration for Anchorage’s Newest Inclusive Playground

Anchorage, Alaska – The Anchorage Park Foundation, in partnership with the Municipality of Anchorage Parks & Recreation Department and community partners, will celebrate the opening of Anchorage’s newest inclusive playground at Taku Lake Park. Members of the media are invited to attend.
The new playground represents an important investment in creating welcoming, accessible spaces where people of all abilities can play, explore, and connect alongside one another. Designed with inclusive play in mind, the playground offers opportunities for children with a wide range of physical, sensory, and developmental abilities to enjoy meaningful play experiences together.
The playground replaces the original structure that was destroyed by fire in 2014. Its construction was made possible through the support of Anchorage voters and generous investments from Tote Maritime Alaska, the Reitman Family Charitable Fund, and Rasmuson Foundation, along with the dedication of advocates, families, and community partners who championed the return of this neighborhood playground.
The addition of the playground marks another milestone in the revitalization of Taku Lake Park into a vibrant community gathering place. In recent years, the park has been enhanced with a FitLot outdoor fitness area, dual pickleball and tennis courts, a new in-ground skatepark, and now an inclusive playground that welcomes children and families of all abilities.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate the return of a playground to Taku Lake Park and grateful to everyone who helped make it possible,” said Beth Nordlund, Executive Director of the Anchorage Park Foundation. “This project shows what’s possible when a community comes together to create spaces where every child feels welcome and has the opportunity to play.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will include brief remarks from project partners, followed by the ribbon cutting and opportunities for photos and interviews.
The Anchorage Park Foundation mobilizes public support and financial resources for Anchorage parks, trails, and recreation opportunities.
