ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Anchorage Park Foundation (APF) invites members of the media to a community tree planting event at Chanshtnu Muldoon Park. Local volunteers with the Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professionals Group (YPG) will gather to restore the park’s urban forest as part of APF’s broader initiative to plant 15,000 native plants in Anchorage by 2028.
Many of Anchorage’s public lands have suffered from Spruce Bark Beetle outbreaks and the spread of invasive European Bird Cherry. To revegetate these areas, APF is greening parks and greenbelts, particularly in underserved neighborhoods by stabilizing streambanks, replanting native species, and expanding urban tree canopies in public spaces. Urban forests play a critical role in local public health and environmental resilience. Native tree canopies keep salmon streams cool, provide essential bird and wildlife habitat, and enhance local property values.
The media is invited to a volunteer event with the Young Professionals Group (YPG) at the Chamber of Commerce. YPG strives to build a powerful community of young leaders dedicated to professional advancement, civic engagement, and sustainable growth for Anchorage.
